Sunidhi Chauhan, who began her musical career at the age of five, has become one of the most prominent singers in the entertainment industry. Known for her powerful vocals and as a judge on several singing reality shows, Sunidhi recently revealed why she has stepped away from judging and how she has not been compensated for many of her popular songs. Read on to discover more about her candid revelations.

Sunidhi Chauhan Criticizes the State of Singing Reality Shows

In a revealing interview with Raj Shamani on his podcast, Sunidhi discussed her reasons for no longer judging singing reality shows. She expressed her disappointment in how the shows have changed over the years. “I enjoyed my first two years when there was no emotional drama—just fun, and the performances you heard were the same as what was broadcast on TV. Now, what you watch on TV shows is all doctored; it’s all corrected,” she explained.

Sunidhi disclosed that she left these shows because she felt uncomfortable with the direction they were taking. She was instructed to promote contestants regardless of their actual performance, which she found unsettling. The Kamli singer also revealed that the narratives portrayed on these shows were fabricated and did not reflect reality.

Sunidhi Chauhan on Unpaid Songs and Choosing Passion Over Payment

In addition to her critique of reality shows, Sunidhi shared how she has not been paid for several well-known songs. Despite giving Bollywood hits like Desi Girl, she mentioned that she still faces challenges in receiving payment for her work. “They ask, and I choose not to take it because I feel for this song I don’t need money. At some places, I would like to help, so I say my price and I sing the song. You don’t want to hurt anybody’s ego because everyone does not think like you. They might also not understand how you feel,” Sunidhi explained.

Sunidhi, who is now 40 years old, has judged numerous singing reality shows, including Dil Hai Hindustani Season 2, The Voice, and Indian Idol seasons five and six. According to a report by TellyChakkar, she stopped serving as a judge after 2018.

In the same interview, the Crazy Kiya Re singer exposed how TV programs are heavily edited and manipulated. Producers focus on highlighting contestants’ strengths, leaving viewers confused about why certain contestants are eliminated.
